Being Bennet

Austenland by Shannon Hale is a fun frolic through the world of Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet. Jane is a New Yorker obsessed with the BBC production of Pride & Prejudice starring Colin Firth (really though, who isn't?!). No real man can begin to compare and when a relative bequeaths her a vacation to a secretive resort based on the Regency era, she jumps at the chance to get over her fixation once and for all. Her assimilation is at times hysterical and it's fun to take the journey with her through this bizarre world of manners and empire-waist gowns, trying to determine what is real and what is just an act. With a movie starring Keri Russell in post-production and a sequel that just came out (Midnight in Austenland), it’s clear that there is a large contingent that loves this world. As if there was any doubt!
